| @fifi_apostolou | 2 | 1 | 2 | Apr 22, 2026, 10:42 UTC | Spot on. Naming Turkey in the same breath as Russia and China wasn’t a gaffe, it was overdue candour. A NATO member -and an EU candidate- that blackmails Europe with migration waves, weaponises the Bosphorus, cozies up to Putin when convenient, buys S-400s, and turns refugee flows into leverage isn’t exactly a reliable partner. It’s a strategic headache parked right on our doorstep. The Brussels instinct to immediately walk it back and soothe Ankara only proves the point: we’ve let dependency and denial replace honest threat assessment. Call threats what they are. Turkey isn’t ‘the gate’ we must flatter — it’s a gate that’s been swinging against us for years. Better to speak plainly now than pretend until the next crisis forces harder choices. |
